Parent Workshops

Learn how to help your child self-calm when faced with challenges and disappointments.

These workshops are presented by an Educational and Developmental Psychologist and a Speech-Language Pathologist with over 20 years of collective specialised experience in the area of children’s social-emotional development.

What this workshop offers:

  • An understanding of anger – what is it and what does it achieve?
  • Practical ‘how to’ knowledge in teaching your child the skills to self-calm:
    • Walking away from the ‘heat of the moment’
    • Relaxation techniques
    • Defusing angry energy
    • Helpful thinking
    • Use of imagery

What this workshop includes:

  • Comprehensive calming skills are embedded within a positive parenting strategy.
  • A variety of take home action plans to help your child build the skills of self-calming.
  • A variety of creative take home resources to support your child’s learning including Seeing Red – an engaging story for homes and classrooms that introduces children to the foundational skills of self-calming.

  • The information provided in these workshops is firmly grounded upon evidence-based practices that involve over 20 years of collective dedicated professional experience and the committed use of evidence-informed psychological and communication strategies. Parents are advised to consult a trained professional if their child’s concerns are significantly interfering with their child’s life. These workshops may complement individual therapy.
  • We do not have the facilities to care for children during the workshops. The workshops are intended for parents only. To ensure participants benefit optimally from the workshops, parents who bring children will not be allowed to attend and will be issued a credit note, minus a $50 administration fee.
  • Video or voice recording of workshops is not permitted.
  • Workshops must be paid in full prior to attendance. Payment is required within one week after enrolment to ensure your place is held.
  • Workshops are not covered as a Medicare rebated item. Participants are asked to contact their private health fund provider to enquire about possible rebates for this professional service. Psychology item code: P400 – Speech Pathology item code: S390.

Cancellation Policy

  • Participants may cancel by contacting us.
  • For cancellations of more than seven days notice, there is a full refund, minus a $50 administration fee.
  • For cancellations notified less than seven days prior to the workshop, there will be no refund but a credit note will be issued with the M.A.ST.E.R. Institute for future events, minus a $50 administration fee.
  • No refund is given for nonattendance without notice.
